ensures that all staff, trainees, and visitors receive immediate and appropriate assistance in the event of illness or
injury, minimizing risks and complying with legal and regulatory requirements.
Policy Statement
The SKILLUP SECURITY TRAINING is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all individuals on its
premises. The centre will take all reasonable steps to ensure that adequate first aid provisions are in place. This
includes maintaining trained personnel, appropriate equipment, and clear procedures for the assessment and
management of injuries and medical emergencies.
Objectives
- To provide immediate and effective first aid to anyone who is injured or becomes ill during activities at the
centre. - To ensure that first aid supplies and equipment are available and maintained.
- To comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and best practice guidelines relevant to training
centres. - To promote awareness and education regarding basic first aid amongst staff and trainees.
- To record and report incidents as required by law and internal policy.
- This policy applies to all staff, contractors, trainees, visitors, and any other individuals present at the SKILLUP
SECURITY TRAINING premises during operating hours or official activities.
Responsibilities
Centre Management - Ensure compliance with legal obligations regarding first aid.
- Appoint a First Aid Coordinator to oversee implementation of the policy.
- Ensure that sufficient numbers of staff are trained in first aid, including refresher courses every three years or
as required. - Provide adequate first aid facilities and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to determine the level of first aid provision required.
- Ensure signage is clear, visible, and accurate regarding the location of first aid stations and personnel.
First Aid Coordinator - Maintain the register of trained first aiders, including their certification status and contact information.
- Coordinate regular inspection and restocking of first aid kits and equipment.
- Organise and document first aid training sessions for staff.
- Ensure accident and incident forms are readily available and properly completed following any incident.
- Review all incident records and advise management of trends or areas of concern. First Aiders

First Aid Provision
First Aid Kits - First aid kits will be located in all training rooms, gyms, common areas, and vehicles used for training
purposes. - Kits will be checked monthly and replenished as needed, with checks documented by the First Aid
Coordinator. - Each kit will contain, at minimum: adhesive dressings, bandages, sterile gauze, antiseptic wipes, disposable
gloves, eye wash, scissors, a resuscitation face shield, and a basic first aid manual. - Specialist items such as burn dressings, splints, and cold packs will be included as appropriate based on risk
assessments.
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) - AEDs will be installed in prominent, accessible locations throughout the centre.
- All trained first aiders will be familiar with AED operation and participate in refresher training.
- Devices will be checked every month to ensure operational readiness.
First Aid Room - The centre will maintain a dedicated first aid room for the assessment and treatment of injuries and illnesses,
featuring privacy, running water, a bed or couch, a telephone, and essential medical supplies. - The room will be clearly signposted and accessible at all times during centre operations.
Procedures
Responding to an Incident - Any person witnessing an injury or illness must immediately alert a first aider or supervisor.
- First aiders will assess the situation and ensure their own safety before providing assistance.
- Minor injuries will be treated on site; serious or life-threatening incidents will be escalated by contacting
emergency services (dial 999/111). - First aiders will remain with the person until responsibility is transferred to medical professionals or the
individual recovers. - All incidents, regardless of severity, must be documented in the First Aid Incident Log.
Record Keeping and Reporting - Every incident requiring first aid must be recorded, including the nature of the incident, treatment given, and
any further actions taken. - Records shall be kept confidential and maintained in accordance with data protection laws.
- Serious incidents must be reported to management and, if required, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Training - All staff will be provided with basic first aid awareness training as part of their induction.
- Designated first aiders will complete and maintain recognised first aid qualifications (e.g., Emergency First Aid
at Work or First Aid at Work). - Refresher training and scenario-based drills will be held annually.
- Records of training participation and certification will be maintained by the First Aid Coordinator.
